My approach to graphic design was formed at Preston Poly. There, it was all about ideas.
My tutors were Ben Casey, George Hollingworth, Alan Livingston, Mike Cameron, Ron Bray, Liz Leyland and a little fella called Bob Gill, who could usually be found in the library. Along with vehicles, they introduced me to other tools of the designer’s trade. I learnt about problem solving and how to make connections (both visual and verbal) and, more importantly, I learnt how to use those tools to generate ideas. Crucially, my tutors also taught me how to express and craft ideas appropriately and relevantly, to communicate to maximum effect.
